Modeled, textured, and lit over the course of a month. This scene is based off of a room in the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago. I was drawn to the room's elegance and brightness, and knew it would be a great way to challenge myself to create detailed architecture. What excited me, too, was making the foliage for the room, something I haven't focused on before. I knew I wanted the room to feel warm and inviting, like a place where people would feel happy and comfortable to lounge in for a bit.
Most of the materials use base materials and texture maps from Megascans. With the Megascans materials I created instances in Unreal Engine to adjust color, roughness, and scale. I also brought the texture maps into Substance Painter when creating trim sheets or to use as jumping off points to replicate materials from my reference, like the floor material and the ceiling designs. I used normal and height maps from Mo Hussan (https://www.artstation.com/mohamedhussien1) to make the intricate ceiling designs, trims for the wall moldings, and designs on multiple meshes like lights and vases.
I'm so happy to have gotten more comfortable making foliage and glass materials with this project, and to have learned better lighting techniques and how to get better reflections. This project has easily become one of my favorites so far.
